Can we truly be free? Or is it our mentality that traps us?

Locked away in this self created
hamster cage, slaving away for
a minimum wage.

What is this purpose? Is this the
life I longed to lead?
Led by fools who tell you
work for me buy material

things and be
happy.

While your inner dreams and desires
languish under a tired brow.
Why do we humans allow this?
Force ourselves into a conformed state?
When did we stop believing in ourselves?

Why?

To me it is the ultimate tragedy
that we went from a society where
you could be a philosopher, thinker
tinkerer, artist.
And not feel like you are not contributing
to our society.

In a world that worships vapid shallowness.
Where the measure of your worth now has
a price tag. It is no wonder many inclined
to think, and create find themselves
trapped in a mind rut,
unable to climb out due to pressures to fit in.

So many days of sadness and misery
eat away at hope with crippling apathy.
It is so hard to see the light some days.
But I hold it in my heart and soul
so I know its not far away.
To give up is unacceptable, hold your spark
release it true.

If your life is not full of happiness.
If you are not waking to hope and a smile.
Then a change must begin with you.
